Research and Development – Vanguard of outsourcing industry in India

Research and development in India takes huge strides up the growth curve, it has begun to shape a new trend in the outsourcing industry.

 
Key Highlights:
  • Currently there are 594 R&D centers in India operating in Software Product Development, Embedded Services and Engineering Services
  • Bangalore, NCR and Pune together comprise the majority of R&D setups with about 494 centers operating from these 3 cities.
  • India has emerged as a prime contributor to the global R&D capabilities of Multi National Companies (MNCs).
  • R&D is seen as a high-value hub for innovations.
  • More than 100 Fortune 500 companies including Delphi, Eli Lilly, General Electric, Hewlett Packard, DaimlerChrysler and others - have put up R&D facilities in India over the past few years.

7 Symantec India center works on complete ownership model for products like Security 2.0, Information 2.0, File System Analyser, AIDA (Automated Inference of Data center Anomalies) and Malware variance
8 Cisco India center key contributed to development team of 7500 router platform, WAN technologies, BPX switches. Small Network Management Solution (SNMS) and Cisco Emergency Responder (CER) was completely conceived and developed entirely in India.

 

Euro India ICT Cooperation Gateway and Euro-India ICT Cooperation Initiative Gateway in Lyon - An opportunity to enhance EU - India research collaboration

Euro India ICT Cooperation Gateway was one of the networking sessions under the International Cooperation section which aimed worldwide collaboration between the European Union and India on the ICT research.

This networking session focused on the Indian involvement in EU-funded ICT research which is growing with 25 partners in FP6 and 6 already in FP7.

This session brought all the Indian and European R&D ICT actors together for dynamic and concrete networking of Euro-India research collaboration and ICT priorities around key thematic areas. The following are the key thematic areas:

  • Digital libraries,
  • IPv6,
  • Software and services,
  • ICT for Learning,
  • Indian successful experience in AEE (acquire-Enhance-Expand) model for Intellectual Property identification, development and commercialization

An exhibition stand named “Euro-India ICT Cooperation Initiative Gateway”, supported by the IndiaMentor (http://www.euroindiaresearch.org/) and Euro India ICT Cooperation Initiative (http://www.euroindia-ict.org/) witnessed around 400 delegates across the world. This stand aimed at accessing Euro-India Co-operation in Research & Technological Development in the field of Information & Communication Technologies (ICT). The stand was equipped with support and information material, which was distributed to the participants. Euro-India ICT Cooperation Gateway tinted on the following materials:

  • Catalogue of Indian Excellence in ICT;
  • Project brochures, leaflets and other promotional material from EC ICT projects with Indian partners;
  • Expressions of Interest for cooperation with Indian counterparts;
  • Direct contact with Indian NCP network representatives for EU-Indian collaborations;
  • Brokerage and networking with Indian FP participants and delegation of stakeholders.

ICT in India – Rapidly Bolstering Industry in India

The information technology industry has truly transformed the way the world looks at India. Rapidly capturing global imagination, the success of its IT industry has sited India at the forefront of the emerging global knowledge economy. According to the National Association of Software and Service Companies (NASSCOM), the apex body for software services in India, the revenue of the information technology sector has grown from 1.2 per cent of the gross domestic product (GDP) in FY 1998 to an estimated 5.5 per cent in FY 2008.

India's IT growth in the world is primarily dominated by IT software and services such as Custom Application Development and Maintenance (CADM), System Integration, IT Consulting, Application Management, Infrastructure Management Services, Software testing, Service-oriented architecture and Web services. R&D in ICT sector is progressing briskly.

Indo-German Joint Call for Proposals – 2008
The purpose of the programme is to stimulate new collaborations, e.g. the preparation of joint projects under national funding programmes. The programme facilitates bilateral cooperation in the fields of Science and Engineering between the research institutes of Council for Scientific & Industrial Research (CSIR), India and those of Germany by way of joint research projects, bilateral workshops / seminars, exchange visits of scientists and scientific and composite (scientific and industrial) delegations.
 
Indo-Bulgarian Bilateral Scientific Cooperation

With a view to intensifying interaction and the scientific cooperation between Indian and Bulgarian Scientists/Institutions, Department of Science and Technology (DST) of India and the Ministry of Education and Science (MES) of Bulgaria extend support for joint research projects involving exchange of visits under the Indo-Bulgarian Bilateral Scientific Cooperation programme with special emphasis on further academic training and specialization of scientists/scholars.

 
Indo-Austrian S&T agreement signed

An Agreement on S & T Cooperation between India and Austria has been signed by the Austrian Minister of Science & Technology Dr. Johannes Hahn and Shri Kapil Sibal, Minister for Science & Technology and Earth Sciences. The Agreement provides for exchange of scientific and technological information, documentation and publications, exchange of scientists and experts and implementation of bilateral-projects of mutual interest. 

 
Indo-Polish Programme of Cooperation in Science & Technology

The programme facilitates bilateral cooperation between the scientific communities of two India & Poland by way of joint research projects, bilateral workshops/seminar, exploratory visits of scientist, scientific delegations and composite (scientific and industrial) delegation. Proposals are invited from time to time.

a) Network of National Contact Points (NCPs)
NCP in India operates through Indian Research Support Network which has been nominated for ICT thematic area by Department of Information Technology (DIT). It is composed of 3 main organisations namely:
National Contact Points are the main structure to provide guidance, practical information and assistance on all aspects of participation in Seventh framework programme.
It is supported by Euro India Research centre (EIRC) in all activities to enhance collaborative research between European and Indian organisations
